Abstract Since the apartment was built by Korea National Housing Cooperation in 1961, the amount of its supply has been increased greatly, especially from the late 70's. In this apartment, It has specially space called balcony to place all sort of goods, exercise, dry cloths and etc. Nowadays, most resident expanded balcony space illegally to live roomier house so the government allowed resident to expand balcony space by revising law to cease argument and use variously for balcony in Dec. 5. 2005. Also the government has enacted the indoor noise regulation which apply since 2008 to increase indoor sound quality. The aim of this study is to propose the plan to improve room acoustics which is satisfied with indoor noise regulation when Balcony expanded. For the purpose, computer simulation and field experiments for several case which balcony expanded or not, was executed. As a result, it suggest that it must install double glass window which sound insulation is more than 32dB, where outdoor noise is below 75dB(A) and also plan which set up a sound absorbing materials in ceiling of balcony are proposed.
