Abstract The purpose of this study is to present the basic data for designing noise control strategy and obtaining comfortable indoor air distribution in large nave church. In order of it, CFD computer simulation of air distribution and field measurement of supply and return air velocity and noise levels were carried out in a large nave of church. As a result, it showed that noise from the return grills had influence on nave, and reduction of air velocity from the return grills of nave floor and both walls under stage was necessary. Noise levels in the nave and seats of superiors were NC-42~47 which exceed over acceptable criterion NC-30 of church. Especially, it was found that sound pressure levels of 250~2,000 Hz should be largely reduced in the nave and seats of superiors. It is desirable that return grill with over 2.4 m2 should be installed in front of the stage in order to satisfy the recommended air velocity of return grill. It wll make reduce the noise level by reducing sound power level of return grill.
