Abstract The present study was conducted to develop and evaluate the safety helmet widely used in various industries by workers in summer. The three methods of the frozen gelled pack test, head manikin test and human wear test were performed to investigate effects of frozen gelled pack inside safety helmet. The results were as follows. First, in efficiency test of the frozen gelled pack, the frozen gelled pack B had a low surface temperature (p<.01) but was heavy. New that was lighter in weight than B remained a similar level. Second, in head manikin tests, surface temperatures in head and vertex were the lowest in HB and the highest in NH. The temperature inside the safety helmet was the highest in OH (p<.01). Third, in human wear tests, considering both weight of frozen gelled pack and effects of light frozen gelled pack on physiological response such as heart rate, sweat rate, mean skin temperature and skin temperature of forehead, cheek, etc., HNew was the most excellent. Subjective sensations did not differ significantly but participants voted that HNew was less hot, more comfortable and less wet on the head.
