Abstract The construction noise has been one of the main issues in environment pollution area. It causes most complaints from the people around construction sites and leads to ever strict regulations to reduce. Main source is the noise from various machines in operation under many different conditions. To build proper measure to reduce construction noises, acoustic data such as sound powers and direction indices are required for each machines. Since sound power data for construction machineries were not available, a rough estimation from sound pressure level at certain distance from a machine has been used until recently. In this study, sound power and direction indices are evaluated and analyzed for eight kinds of construction machineries under various working conditions by measuring equivalent sound pressure levels at the construction site according to ISO 6395. This results will be used for noise prediction for a residential area nearby construction site.
