Abstract This research was implemented to elevate indoor air quality of express bus and to generate cooling energy by natural ventilation. A bus with over 26℃ of indoor temperature needs cooling from April when season changes owing to human heat and sunlight penetrating through windows. Free cooling, which cools down only by outdoor air is difficult during July and August, a season of scorching weather. However, mere bringing air in can bring about sufficient cooling effect during the rest of seasons. For the purpose, this study proved that adjustment of damper angle was an important factor to bring out the effect. When the angle was 60℃, the amount of air increased by 15~25% compared to when it was 30℃ despite reduced chamber entrance surface. Comparing to a model without a damper, about 40% of air decreased. Consequently, this research showed a measure to curtail the cooling load of the express bus while improving the indoor air quality simultaneously.
