Abstract |
The purpose of the study was to investigate the recognition and application condition of CAM (Complementary and Alternative Medicine) in health teacher. The subjects consisted of 161 elementary health teachers working in Jeonbuk. The data were collected from July 26 to August 20, 2010 and analyzed by the SPSS 18.0. The most positive recognition of CAM was ‘psychological support and improving wellbeing’. The recognition of ‘Illegal medical treatment’ was significantly different according to age. 70.3% of the subjects had experience of CAM education. Among the CAM methods, taping therapy was the most widely known at 97.5%. Actually, 59.5% of the subjects had used CAM at school and based their decision on ‘Alleviating symptom and assisting treatment’. 47.5% of the subjects used massage/finger-pressure therapy and 37.3% used taping therapy at school. Among the health teacher, 80.5% thought CAM was applicable at school. The expected problem by application of CAM at school was different according to services career by correspondence analysis. The health teachers of ‘below 10 years’ answered ‘side-effects and complication’, while health teachers of ‘10~29 years’ answered ‘Illegal problem’. Based on the results of this study, it is need to develop a standard guidance for CAM application at school. More evidence based research about CAM are needed to extend the role and field for school nursing as a health teacher. |
