Abstract The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between 2D:4D ratio and sports ability, with particular reference to physical fitness and long term training effect among children. For this purpose, 148 male and female children aged from 8 to 11 years old were selected to participate in this study, which includes pre and post physical fitness tests and 16 weeks training program for the selected subjects(n = 39). X-ray was implemented on the subject’s hand and their 2D : 4D ratios were measured by using the GE software. Comparison between selected subjects(n = 39) and nonselected subjects(n = 109) showed that 2D:4D ratio didn’t have significant influence in determining the selection status of 148 subjects to the 16 weeks training program. After 16 weeks of training, low 2D : 4D ratio group only correlates negatively with shuttle run 15 m test, r = ?.65 and p = .012. Meanwhile, medium 2D : 4D ratio group only correlates with sit and reach test by r = .63 and p = .015. This suggests that 2D : 4D is a relatively weak predictor of strength and a stronger predictor of efficiency in aerobic and flexibility type of exercise. The results regarding the impact of 2D : 4D ratio on the post physical fitness tests showed that there were no relationships and difference found in those low, medium and high 2D : 4D ratio for predicting the sports ability in children. Therefore, it can be speculate that 2D:4D ratio in both gender may not be a positive correlate of sports potential among children.
