Title Perception for Successful Aging & Depression of Middle Aged Women

Abstract Purpose: This study is to examine the factors that are importantly considered by the middle-aged women for successful aging and to enhance the relationship between Perception for Successful Aging and Depression of Middleaged women through the analysis of this study. Methods: The survey was conducted upon the aged people between the ages of forty and fifty nine who reside in Kyunggi-Do, Korea. Two hundred four questionnaires were collected and it was analyzed by using SPSS WIN 12.0. Results: The most important factor for Perception for Successful Aging of Middle-aged women was ‘The Welfare of Family’, the second was ‘The Health and Economy’ the third was ‘The Pursuing for Meaning’, the fourth was ‘The Moderation’, the fifth was ‘The Individual Growth’, and the last was ‘The Showing Off’. Difference of the perception for successful aging and depression according to General Characteristics were as follows. ‘The Welfare of Family’ was significantly different according to marital status, living together and ‘The Health and Economy’ was living together, houshold income. ‘The Pursuing for Meaning’ was significantly different according to religion, percieved health status and ‘The Moderation’ was living together, religion, life satisfaction. ‘The Individual Growth’ was significantly different according to living together, religion and ‘The Showing Off’ was significantly different according to religion, life satisfaction. ‘Depression’ was significantly different according to life satisfaction, percieved health status. The Correlation of the Perception for Successful Aging and the Depression has shown that there were negative-relation between the depression and the welfare of family, the health and economy, the pursuing for meaning, the moderation and the individual growth. Conclusion: Findings of this study that the depression of middle-aged women is significantly important factor for successful aging.
