Abstract The purpose of this study was to develop disposable pesticide protective clothing which gives comfort to farmers who are working in a hot green house. We developed special clothing using poly lactic acid(PLA) material which can biodegrade. We researched current market and selected commercialized materials which have already produced, for control. We evaluated such physical properties of three different materials(PLA, PP; Non-woven and PE; Woven) as fiber contents, weight, strength, elongation, water resistance, and water repellency. We also evaluated comfort and physiological responses in field trial. For the subject test, four male adults participated. They conducted pesticide spraying job for 90 min wearing 3 type pesticide protective clothing under environmental condition which is 28, 50%RH(1st test) and 32.5, 90%RH(2nd test) in green-house. The main results were summarized as follows. Change of clothing microclimate was inhibited more effectively in pesticide protective clothing made of PLA than PP and PE. Change of heart rate was significantly lower in PLA than the others. As a result, we conclude that pesticide protective clothing made of PLA reduce thermal stress during the spraying of pesticides in summer and respond to consumer's need about the eco-friendly products because PLA is 100% biodegradable material.
