Title Factors Affected Problem Behavior of the Elderly with Dementia in Elderly Care Facilities

Abstract This study investigated aspects of problem behavior of the elderly with dementia in elderly care facilities and analyzed general characterization and the grade of long-term care services, activities of daily living(ADL), difference of problem behavior according to factors affected problem behavior. The investigator surveyed the elderly with dementia at six nursing facilities for the elderly with dementia in Daejeon. The grade of long-term care services, the ADL, and coping behavior were highly related to problem behavior. In the differences of problem behavior, the elderly became higher aggressive behavior when the duration of dagnosis was longer and the grade of long-term care services was lower. The elderly with moderate dementia observed higher resisting behavior of problem behaviors in cognitive function. Also, the ADL and grade of long-term care services of the elderly showed highly in nervous symptoms, and the difference of nervous symptoms exhibited when coping behavior against problem behavior is passive. special concern and medication on these variable values need because the difference on occurrence of problem behavior according to duration of dagnosis, marital state, grade of long term care services, coping behavior and ADL should be generate. Therefore, it may be need development of professional and individual intervention programs to understand and reduce problem behavior of the elderly with dementia. In particular, active·positive behavior, social·psychological factors and environments and specialization of family support was sufficiently required on detailed management and coping behavior of the care class.
