Abstract This study is to propose an improvement plan of room acoustic design and noise control strategy in multipurpose auditorium adjacent to noise and vibration source in a building. For the purpose of it, the building design draft and computer simulation of room acoustics are reviewed about noise and room acoustic environment in the subject auditorium under ballroom which is the floor impact noise source. The field measurement and analysis about room acoustic environment are also carried out after construction by the improvement plan of noise and room acoustic environment in the subject auditorium. As a result, proper reverberation time, even sound pressure level distribution, and good speech intelligibility are obtained by the improvement plan of which the ceiling sound reflector, the side wall sound reflector, and distribution of sound absorptive panel in the subject auditorium. Floor impact noise from the floor slab of upper ballroom showed to be much enough reduced by installing vibration damping sheet on the floor slab of the ballroom and double sound insulation ceiling structure of the auditorium.
