Abstract |
Age-related loss of strength contributes to impaired mobility and increases the risk of fall. The purpose of this study was to compare the mobility-related fitness (MF) of elderly women among wellbeing community center, Kyungro-dang (senior community center), and nursing home. The number of subjects were 513 (n = 145 wellbeing community center, n = 217 Kyungro-dang, and n = 151 nursing home). The performance test items related to MF were composed by the grip strength, chair sit-to-stand, and 244 cm up and go test. Patients suffering severe musculoskeletal and cardiopulmonary disease were excluded from this study. The grip strength, chair sit-to-stand, and 244cm up and go measures were decreased significantly across the three groups (p < .01). The result suggest that effective interventions for enhancing mobility should be developed for the Kyoungro-dang and nursing home elderly women. Further investigation is needed involving larger sample sizes and direct comparisons with other forms of mobility-related fitness. |
