Abstract |
This study examined the influence of blood pressure and release of nitric oxide(NO) response to various subsequence of aerobic and resistance exercise. Eight females participated in four types of exercise which were organized with single bout of aerobic exercise(65%VO2max during 25 min: A), single bout of resistance exercise(65% 1RM: R), resistance exercise after aerobic exercise(A-R), aerobic exercise after resistance exercise(R-A). Blood samples were collected at rest, immediately after exercise and one hour of recovery phase. Blood pressure, nitric oxide(NO), cortisol and lactic acid were compared over time(before, post, recovery) and exercise types(A-R, R-A) with two-way repeated measure ANOVA. The results of this study were as follows: No significant change was apparent in diastolic blood pressure throughout the exercise bout in all trials, whereas main effects of trial and time were significant in systolic blood pressure(p = .018, p = .000, respectively). Main effect of time was significant in pulse blood pressure(p = .001). There was no effect of time and types in NO. However, NO levels of R-A at post exercise showed higher tendency than A-R. There was a significant interaction between time and type in cortisol, especially cortisol of R-A at post was higher than A-R. In lactic acid, a significant interaction between type and time was found, especially A-R at post was higher than R-A at post and both A-R and R-A at post were higher than before and recovery. Therefore, we recommend performing A before R exercise (AR) when combing them into one exercise session for blood pressure reduction. However, the further research should be conducted to determine long-term response of blood pressure especially, in terms of NO responses. |
