Title Effects of Clinical Nurse Work-related Hospital Environments on Safety and Health Performance

Abstract This study was to measure the safety and health performed by clinical nurses and to identify effects of work-related hospital environment variables. The tool used in this study was a questionnaire for measuring the safety and health activities of clinical nurses which was structured with 14 questions in 5 factors. 211 clinical nurses participated in this study. The reliability of this questionnaire had Cronbach’s α .802. To perform safety and health by clinical nurses, work-related hospital environment variables have to be considered. Overtime, department, and shift work showed statistically significant difference on ‘Work management’ and ‘Health promotion’ factor. As a affecting variable, department effected ‘Work management’, ‘Health promotion’, and ‘Nursing managerial policies’ factor. Thus, managing long work and shift work nurse in the unit, attention on work managing and development in health promoting program is needed. Nursing policy with a combination of ergonomic work method will improve safety and health performance by using nursing protocol.
