Abstract This study was to analyze the energy saving design trend for the Korean housing through the housing prototypes which shows the feasibility and adaptability in the real housing projects. Five housing prototypes were selected for the analysis of the trend and two examples were picked for the detailed study. The conclusion of the study is as follows: First, the housing prototypes suggest the energy saving through the two major strategies: expanding more energy saving factors and developing the energy saving efficiency. Second, the housing prototypes depends more on the active energy saving methods and mechanical system to approach 100% saving housing. Third, 40% to 60% saving housing is the important threshold in terms of the energy saving system. The consideration for the efficiency, price and users should be essential to understand the priority of adaptation.
