The aim of the present study was to examine the effects of 12-week combined exercise on Fibrinolytic factors and Carotid Intima-Media Thickness in Menopausal Women. Twenty eight volunteer sedentary healthy postmenopausal women (49-55 years), who entered the menopause naturally, were divided randomly into two groups: combined aerobic and resistance exercise groups (n=14) and control groups(n=14). Subjects in complex exercise performed their assigned Walking exercise(1-2 week : THR 45-55%, 3-6 week : THR 55-60%, 7-12 week : THR 60-70%) and Resistance exercise(Time : 20 min, Intensity : 1RM 40%, Repetition : 10). Blood fibrinolytic factors and inflammatory markers were assessed both before and after combiend aerobic and resistance exercise program in both groups. After 12 weeks combined aerobic and resistance exercise program, plasma plasminogen activator inhibitor-1(PAI-1) activity of the combined exercise group was significantly increased(p<0.05) in comparison to the control groups. Tissue plasminogen activator(tPA) activity of the combined aerobic and resistance exercise group were significantly increased (p<0.05) in comparison to the control groups. and than tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) activity of the combined aerobic and resistance exercise group was significantly decreased(p<0.05) in comparison to the control groups. CRP and IL-6 levels of the combined aerobic and resistance exercise group were significantly decreased(p<0.05) in comparison to the control group. However, carotid intima media thickness was not significantly different between either of the groups. It was concluded that fibrinolytic activity on postmenopausal women could be improved by a 12-week regular combined aerobic and resistance exercise program. These changes on the hemostatic factors suggest that regular combined aerobic and resistance exercise may prevent the decline in fibrinolytic function observed in sedentary postmenopausal women. |
