Abstract The purpose of this study is to introduce the excavation project of soundscape attractions in Mt. Mudeung which was attempted domestically for the first time, to reconfirm the achievements and tasks which were shown in processes of the project, and ultimately to expand into the progressive directions and practical activities for the preservation measures of sound environments. The investigated methods were used two ways : personal soundwalk and public contest. According to the personal soundwalk, the sound resources of Mt. Mudeung consisted of ecological, social, traditional sounds and environmental noise. The public contest found that 55 entries including sounds like waterfall, footstep on rocks, rock-climbing, water in the valley and wind chime of buddhist temple were entered. A documentary film was produced for promote the soundscape attractions of the fall in Mt. Mudeung by a local station. The film included sounds in a grove of sun trees, shouts of rock climbing, rolling sounds with the wind of tall wildgrass, sounds of the memorial service for one's ancestors, and sounds of the buddihist temple bell. The results found that it is needed the vitalization of citizen participation, expansion of sound education, and evolvement of sound cultural movement as a problems awaiting solution.
