Abstract |
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between BDNF(brain-derived neurotrophic factor) and ghrelin and identify the independent factors affecting BDNF and ghrelin among factors related to physical activity and obesity. Subjects of this study were 52 adolescents. They were measured variables of body composition, serum lipid and brain nerve growth factor. The factors of brain nerve growth were BDNF and ghrelin. Data analysis was done using PASW Statistics 18.0 program and included independent t-test, Pearson correlation coefficients and stepwise multiple regression. The results of this study were as follows; Ghrelin was significantly higher in obese adolescents. BDNF was significantly higher in normal adolescents. Body fat percentage was the significant factor affecting BDNF and it describes that BDNF of adolescents is 22.1%. BMI, body fat mass and glucose were significant factors affecting ghrelin. These factors describe that ghrelin of adolescents is 24.5%. It was found that change in body fat percentage was needed in order to change BDNF which is the factor to generate brain nerve cells and the changes in BMI, muscle mass and glucose were needed to change ghrelin which was the factor to improve energy metabolism. In particular, if obesity is improved through reduction of body fat mass and body fat percentage, it is thought that factors of brain nerve cells are generated and the factors of energy metabolism is improved. |
