Abstract |
The purpose of this study is to understand baby boomers' lifestyle and their perception of successful aging and is to develop an education and intervention program for successful aging. Data were collected by interviewing baby boomers in 11 wide-area autonomous communities using a questionnaire from November 5th to 30th, 2012, analyzed by SPSS 21.0. The survey showed that the majority of baby boomers' lifestyle is 'pursuing health' and their important element of perception of successful aging is 'stability in daily life'. Thus, baby boomers wish to live a healthy life and recognize a stable life under sufficient conditions as the main component of successful aging. General characteristics are the main variables influencing perception of successful aging. Most lifestyle values except 'pursuing stable and affluent life' are highly correlated with each element of successful aging. In conclusion, for baby boomers to fulfill successful aging, personal preparation for aging in general is necessary and should be supported by social policy. Furthermore, it is crucial to develop an education and intervention program for successful aging reflecting general characteristics and lifestyle. |
