Abstract |
Since 1980s, many self-governing bodies established named 'Community Center' which is supposed to function as local integrated cultural facilities to satisfy residents' needs for Art and Culture. In this study, not only to develop the positive aspects but also to overcome the limitations which community centers inevitably have, a couple of methods for improvement are suggested as follows through researching on reference bibliographies, case studies, and surveys conducted to compare physical conditions of 20 community centers in Seoul City, Republic of Korea. First of all, improvements to the unbalanced tendency of use of the local community centers should be performed. Second, specified and diversified programs for the community centers are needed. Third, improvements to the low usage rates of the specific facilities should be prepared to overcome weaknesses of the cultural spaces. Fourth, more aggressive publicity activities on the programs through mass media or internet are needed. And in order to conduct all of above suggestions effectively, systematic and synthetic surveys of preferences and demands of the residents in the regional area also should be executed in advance. |
