Abstract In high-rise buildings, it is necessary to apply an appropriate alternatives to reduce stack effect problems during the design process. Although various methods have been proposed by previous studies, it is not easy to select appropriate reduction methods for a specific building. Lee (2008) proposed Total Countermeasure Solution on Stack Effect [TCSS] to solve these difficulties. But due to the lack of understanding about TCSS, it has not been applied in many cases yet. Thus, the purpose of this study was to demonstrate the process of TCSS. The TCSS reviewing process was applied to several architectural and mechanical methods in reducing problems due to the stack effect in an existing 21-story high-rise office building.
