In this study, we progressed flame retardant performance evaluation of wood-based materials, which were applied with carbon materials. We analyzed using a cone calorimeter according to ISO 5660-1 standard. Also, we proceed to the TGA experiment for confirming the thermal property of graphite and exfolied graphite nano pletelets (xGnP) applied as flame retardants. The value of the heat release rate of all specimen applied with xGnP were not exceed 200 kW/m2 during the total testing time of 5 minutes corresponding to the flame-retardant Level 3. The value of the heat release rate of all specimen applied with xGnP were not exceed 200kW/m2 during the total testing time of 5 minutes corresponding to the flame-retardant Level 3. And in this experiment, the value of heat release rate of the specimen, which was applied to 4 wt% of xGnP, showed a relatively low value. The case of the value of total heat release, the value of the specimens, which were applied with xGnP, showed lower than the non-treated specimens'. Also, it was confirmed that the slopes of the graph of the specimens were applied with xGnP, were lowering after 300 seconds. Through the results of TGA measurements, we confirmed the thermal properties of graphite and xGnP, and determined that the materials had the thermal stability through the results of the mass loss rate in fact less likely. Based on these results we were confirmed xGnP was contributed to improved flame retardant performance of woodbased materials. |
