Abstract The purpose of this study was to compare differences of bilateral deficit and asymmetry of low extremity to age during isokinetic leg-press. 16 healthy young(24.3±6.4 year) and 16 healthy elderly women(72.5±3.6 year) performed bilateral and unilateral leg-press movements on the multi-functional isokinetic dynamometer. The bilateral deficit and asymmetry index were calculated through the measured isokinetic maximal force. Maximal force of young women was higher than elderly women in both low and high speed and both unilateral and bilateral test. Bilateral deficit was higher in elderly women than in young women at high speed, but was not different between young and elderly women at low speed. Asymmetry index, which means difference between left and right leg force, was higher in elderly women than young women at both low and high speed. This study suggests the importance of bilateral deficit and asymmetry of low extremity concerning prevention of falling in elderly women.
