Abstract |
This study examined whether depression mediates the influence of travel experience on subjective health of the elderly persons. Data from the 5th wave of the Korea Longitudinal Study of Ageing (KLoSA) were used, and a total of 4,220 older adults over 65-years old were selected for the analyses. Multiple regression analyses were performed to investigate if depression mediated the effect of travel experience on subjective health. Results of this study showed that travel experience had a significant positive effect on subjective health of elderly persons and travel experience reduced the level of depression. Also, depression was found to be a mediating variable that account for the association between travel experience and subjective health. These findings show that depression may be an important factor in understanding the relationship between travel experience and subjective health in elderly persons. The results of this study imply that depression should be considered in planning leisure interventions to improve comprehensive aspects of health in elderly persons. |
