Abstract Noise from construction site in urban area and its propagation characteristics was investigated, and predicted noise levels of adjacent buildings to the site are compared with noise criteria in this study. Construction noise in the stage of earth work, excavation, and ground shoring were assumed. Noise reduction effect were calculated by computer simulation of the vertical and the horizontal noise influence range according to the condition of decking plate on the ground of site and the noise barrier’s height which is installed on the boundary of construction site. As a result, noise reduction effect showed 12~13 dB behind the noise barrier, and the effective range of it was calculated to about 50 m high from ground level. Decking plate covering the construction site during excavation reduced the construction noise to 10~15 dB. So, noise barrier’s height is limited to the reduction effect of construction noise, but the decking plate covering the whole construction site is very effective to the construction noise management.
