Abstract As indoor air quality has emerged a major social issue, the evaluation of local ventilation in indoor becomes more important. Local ventilation evaluation has been mainly conducted through the analysis of the age of air. However, it needs expensive cost and numerous time when the architectural designers evaluate the age of air using conventional methods. Therefore, a prediction equation that can estimate the age of air with basic information such as the shape of room and ventilation rate was developed in this study. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation was used to make the input data of the prediction equation, and a total of 162 cases were analyzed. Based on the results of the CFD simulation, an optimal regression model for the prediction of age of air was derived from the multiple regression analysis. The optimal regression model included five independent variables. The coefficient of determination of the regression model was 0.80 and Durbin-Watson value was 1.348. In addition, the prediction accuracy of the regression model was about 84.2%, which suggests that it predicted the actual age of air well.
