Abstract The building energy demands of the CLT wooden houses were evaluated based on the energy-saving design standards in 14 domestic cities. Outdoor climate data of 14 cities obtained from Meteonorm 7.2 climate data calculation program. In the case of Gangneung, the annual heating energy demand is 31.93 kWh/m2a, which is 18.97 kWh/m2a less than Seosan, which is divided into the same regional classification. In addition, the demand for cooling and heating energy in Gangneung (central region 2) and Busan (southern region) was lower than the demand for cooling and heating energy in the Jeju region. The difference in energy demand indicates that excessive insulation design is required for Gangneung and Busan compared to other cities. This means that it is necessary to review the energy-saving design standards based on the weather data and building energy demand in each city. In this study, the regional classification considering the thermal environment condition of each city was derived, and the insulation performance criterion for each regional classification was suggested.
