Abstract |
The purpose of this study is to provide basic data for the development of effective exercise programs and health promotion strategies comparable to Japan by understanding the physical conditions of the elderly and their perceptions of health and physical activity. In an analysis of 108 elderly Koreans and 104 elderly Japanese, it was found that the elderly in Korea generally participated in more exercise than the elderly in Japan. Additionally, the Korean elderly participated most in walking exercises, while in Japan, the elderly most participated in light strength exercises, yielding a statistically significant difference. Secondly, despite the high participation rate of the elderly in Korea, the Korean elderly showed a negative perception of their own health compared to the elderly in Japan. In addition, both countries displayed a positive perception of physical activity. However, there is a statistically significant difference between the Korean elderly and the Japanese elderly in the economic expenditures used for physical activity. Based on the above results, it is necessary to develop a sports program that can not only improve physical function but also positively impact one's perceptions of physical activity. |
