Abstract |
This study analyzed the vapor barrier regulations of the Korean Energy-Saving Design Standards to determine whether the allowable permeance of the vapor barrier is enough and to determine if the exemption condition based on the installation of a vapor barrier is based on the reality of a construction site. Using a hygrothermal simulation, we conclude that the Korean vapor barrier regulations must be effectively strengthened and that the exemption condition based on the installation of a vapor barrier ignores construction errors that typically occur at construction site; for example, the gap between insulations. Thus, to revise this vapor barrier regulation, we propose the minimum allowable vapor permeance and the specifications of the vapor barrier installation. |
