Abstract |
Physical exercise has a positive effect on increasing or maintaining BMD(bone mineral density) in postmenopausal women. This study investigated the effects of treadmill exercise on bone breaking force and serum bone metabolism markers in ovariectomized mice. OVX mice(C57BL/6, 7 weeks old)were randomly assigned to 3 groups as follows: control group(CON, n=12), OVX+control group(OVX+CON, n=12), OVX+exercise group(OVX+EXE, n=12). Exercise protocol was performed on a treadmill 4 days/week, 30 min/day, at a speed of 14-16 m/min for 16 weeks. Femur breaking force was measured at the end of experiment. ALP, OC and CTx-1 levels in serum were analyzed. Femur breaking force was significantly increased in OVX+EXE group compared with OVX+CON group(p<0.05). Serum ALP and OC levels were significantly decreased in OVX+EXE group compared with OVX+CON group(p<0.05). Serum CTx-1 level was decreased in OVX+EXE group compared with OVX+CON group, but non significant difference. In conclusion, theses results suggested that long-term chronic treadmill exercise can improve bone turnover. |
