Abstract |
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the moderating effect of ego-identity in the relationship between mid-life crisis and depression. Data were collected form 212 middle aged women by self-reported questionnaires including Mid-life Crisis Scale, Korean versions of Center for Epidemiology Studies Depression Scale(CED-D) and Korean versions of Dignan Ego-identity scale. Data were analyzed using hierarchical multiple regression. The mid-life crisis and ego-identity variables were mean centered due to multicollinearity issues. The mid-life crisis C(centering)(β=0.60, p<.001), ego-identity C(β=-0.20, p<.001), Interaction parameters of mid-life crisis C and egoidentity C(β=-0.16, p<.001)were significant predictors which explained 75.1% of the variance reported in depression. The result indicated that the ego-identity were influencing moderating effect in the relationship between mid-life crisis and depression. Therefore, it is necessary to include ego-identity in building strategies to prevent depression when developing programs for middle aged women undergoing mid-life crisis. |
