Abstract The purpose of this study was to investigate factors that influence cognitive function by life style in community - dwelling elderly people. The research used data of the elderly 4,286 over 65 years of age from the sixth wave(2016) of the Korean Longitudinal Study of Aging(KLoSA). The predictors using life style were smoking, alcohol, physical activity and social activity. Confounding factors in age, gender, education, family income, chronic disease(hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cerebrovascular disease, arthritis & rheumatism) and depression were controlled for analysis. Hierarchial multiple regression was conducted to examine whether life style factors would predict cognitive function by controlling confounding factors. The significant predictors of cognitive function were physical activity(β=.06, p<.001) and social activity(β=.14, p<.001) among life style factors. The result suggest that cognitive function improvement programs for the elderly should be included physical activity and social activity.
