Title Effects of Rapid Weight Loss on Body Composition, Muscle Strength, Agility and Cardiorespiratory Endurance in Wrestler

Abstract The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of rapid weight loss (RWL) on body composition, muscle strength, agility and cardiorespiratory endurance in elite wrestlers. Fourteen female and male elite wrestlers (age = 23.92 ± 3.45 years, careers = 11.14 ± 2.17 years) completed body composition, muscle strength, agility and cardiorespiratory endurance assessments three day prior to an official weigh-in (pre-test) and immediately after the weigh-in (post-test). RWL program with 6.35% of weight loss had a significantly reduced impact on cardiorespiratory endurance, while the changes of Muscle strength and agility were not significant after rapid weight loss. These findings demonstrate negative effects on cardiorespiratory endurance in elite wrestlers engaging in rapid weight loss strategies prior to competition.
