| Abstract |
The purpose of this study was to identify factors related to safety awareness among middle school students in South Korea. Using statistics from the 15th (2019) Korea Youth Risk Behavior Survey, logistic regression analysis was conducted. Safety awareness was measured by not wearing a seat belt in the front and rear seats of the car or taxi, and in the express bus. The study sample was 29,384 students in grades 1 through 3 in middle school. The rate of non-wearing seat belts in the front seats, rear seats and express bus seats were 13.9%, 47.5% and 23.1% respectively.
The significant factors of safety awareness were academic achievement, ever smoking, ever drinking, breakfast, and perceived stress in the personal characteristics. It can be seen that in middle school students, factors in the field of healthy life practice of health promotion and factors in the field of mental health are also related to safety awareness.
Safety education program for high-risk group may be needed, given the factors relating safety awareness. |
