Abstract |
A number of schools were closed due to the implementation of the small-scale school consolidation policy. The problem of neglecting closed schools is being solved by changing its purpose to office spaces, libraries, short-term residential facilities, and dormitories. However, old closed schools consume a lot of building energy due to insufficient thermal performance of the building envelope. Therefore, this study proposed energy retrofit of closed schools to reduce carbon emissions in the building sector. First, the building energy performance of the target building was diagnosed, and then the effect of improving the building energy performance by applying the retrofit package technology was analyzed. Finally, a repurposing was proposed to revitalize unused closed schools, and when the use was changed to a dormitory and all retrofit technologies were applied, the building energy consumption was reduced by 83%. |
