Abstract |
This study aimed to investigate the effect of a Pilates electives class on improving sleep quality among 18 college students. Pilates exercise was conducted once a week for 70 minutes, totaling 12 weeks during a semester. Students completed body composition analysis and surveys, including IPAQ-SF (International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Short Form) and K-PSQI (Korean-Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index), before and after the protocol. After 12 weeks, significant changes observed in muscle mass and body fat percentage. An interaction effect between time and gender was observed for body fat percentage. Additionally, there was no significant change in the level of physical activity. However, sleep quality showed a significant time effect. The number of 'good sleepers' increased, and overall sleep quality improved. The components of K-PSQI, such as subjective sleep quality, sleep onset latency (minutes), sleep duration (hours), and daytime dysfunction, significantly improved. In conclusion, Pilates exercise demonstrated a positive effect on sleep quality, despite uncertain changes in physical activity levels. |
