Abstract Adolescent obesity stands as a critical public health challenge. Sedentary behavior is regarded as the main risk factor that strongly predicts obesity by causing lack of exercise. Using behaviour change theories, this study presented an design-led intervention called 'o-un-wan' diary to reduce sedentary behaviour and promote exercise among adolescents. The effectiveness of the intervention was evaluated by conducting a Home User Test, including pre- and post-surveys and in-depth interviews. Results indicated notable enhancements across all three aspects of Theory of planned behaviour (attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavior control), significantly increasing the motivation for exercise among participants. This study holds significance in proposing a strategy of utilizing a peer network-based intervention and suggests an alternative direction for addressing the issues of increased sedentary behavior and lack of exercise among adolescents in South Korea.
