Abstract This study investigated the effect of the health status of the elderly on life satisfaction to verified whether social participation activities and information technology device utilization ability play a sequential mediating role. To this end, the 2020 Elderly Survey 2nd data was used to target 9,885 elderly people aged 65 or older with missing values removed. Statistical analysis was performed using Model 6 of SPSS 25.0 Process 4.2 and bootstrap verification. As a result of verifying the sequential mediating effect of social participation activities and information technology device utilization ability, the total indirect effect of health status on life satisfaction was found to be statistically significant. In addition, the mediating effect of social participation activities and the sequential mediating path of information technology device utilization ability were both confirmed to be statistically significant. As a result, it was verified that information technology device utilization ability plays a sequential mediating role. Based on these results, this study is significant in that it suggests a plan to increase life satisfaction by improving health status, social participation activities, and expanding information technology device utilization ability that affect the life satisfaction of the elderly.
