Abstract The South Korea government has established technical development plans for mid-to-high rise timber buildings to support carbon neutrality. However, due to regulatory constraints, most domestic timber buildings are restricted to single-story structures. Consequently, there is a lack of construction cases for mid-to-high rise timber buildings in South Korea. This study aims to establish fundamental data for estimating construction costs and periods for such buildings under domestic condition. Through comparisons with case studies from North America and Europe, the economic and construction efficiency of the domestic case was evaluated. The results indicate that economic and construction efficiency are significantly lower than those in North America and Europe.
