Abstract The purpose of this study is to categorize the subjectivity regarding pet loss by applying Q methodology, and to analyze and describe the characteristics of each type. Regarding the subjects of the research, 32 participants who had experienced the loss of a pet were selected as the P-samples. And by selecting 34 Q-samples from the total of 129 Q-populations, the forced distribution took place in terms of the 9-points scale. The data were analyzed with the QUANL program. As a result of the research, the 4 types were discovered. They appeared as ‘Human-animal identification mourning type’, ‘Severe emotional distress type’, ‘Acceptance of the natural order type’, ‘Guilt-ridden and socially conscious type’. The research results showed that each type exhibited different mourning styles and psychological responses, and effective nursing interventions require a tailored approach and care that consider the characteristics of each type. Additionally, social support that promotes healthy mourning responses and recovery is important.
