Abstract This study examined G-SEED?certified buildings from 2017 to 2024, focusing on indoor environmental (IE) performance by building type, certification grade, and the distribution of high- and zero-scoring items. In non-residential buildings, items with an average attainment ratio above 70% were ‘7.5 Automatic temperature control devices’ and ‘7.1 Low-emission building materials,’ with item 7.5 exceeding 85% across all types, indicating that required performance levels are well established. Items frequently scoring zero included ‘7.8 Noise levels from road and rail traffic’ (92.5%) due to reliance on specialized external measurements and ‘7.2 Natural ventilation performance’ (about 78%), reflecting fewer operable windows in mechanically ventilated buildings. These results indicate the need to revise or expand IE criteria to better account for different building contexts and support more comprehensive evaluation in new non-residential projects.
Overall, the findings provide empirical evidence on the current operation of the G-SEED system and inform future improvements to the certification framework.
