| Abstract |
This study aims to describe and compare moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) among Korean adults at multiple timepoints before and after the COVID-19 pandemic, including pre-pandemic (2019), early (2020), and later (2021) stages of the pandemic and to identify the factors associated with MVPA for each year. Data from 2019 to 2021 Korea Community Health Survey were analyzed. Descriptive statistics and logistic regression were performed. The proportion of adults meeting MVPA recommendations gradually decreased from 23.8% in 2019 to 19.2% in 2020 and 18.6% in 2021. We identified the characteristics of adults whose MVPA decreased in 2020 compared to 2019, and then increased again in 2021. Additionally, we identified MVPA correlates unrelated to COVID-19 and MVPA correlates whose impact changes before and after COVID-19. In conclusion, adults MVPA has decreased since COVID-19 pandemic compared to before. Policy makers and health professionals should increase their concern and focus on the decline in MVPA during the pandemic among female, old adults (>65 years old), low socioeconomic status group, and adults in poor health. |
