Abstract To examine the influence of analytical models of shallow foundations on the seismic performance of non-seismic designed RC frames located at soil sites and , push-over analyses and seismic performance evaluations were performed. Foundations were modeled as 6 DOF springs or Winkler springs according to FEMA 356 and ASCE/SEI 41. 2 and 4 story buildings were designed only for gravity loads, based on the design codes in 1999. The performance points were obtained in case in which the building importance factors were 1.0 and 1.2. As results, it was shown that the foundation modeling had little influence on the capacity curve of frame, even though it might change the locations of plastic hinges. But when Winker model was used and the plastic hinge was occurred at the foundation, the capacity curve might be reduced.
