Abstract This paper presents an experimental study and analytical investigation of the flexural performance of one-way reinforced concrete slabs strengthened by a carbon fabric reinforced cementitious matrix (C-FRCM), which is an external strengthening method applied to the surface of existing structures. Key variables in the experimental study were the number and spacing of fabric layers embedded in the cement matrix. A total of four specimens were tested under two-point loading, and their flexural performances were evaluated by sectional analysis. It was confirmed from the test that the flexural strength of the specimens strengthened by C-FRCM increased by 21~44 % compared with that of the control specimen. Also, the flexural performance improved as the number of fabric layers increases. The sectional analysis captured the structural behavior of the strengthened slabs well. Therefore, it was concluded that the one-way reinforced concrete slabs could have improved flexural performances by the C-FRCM strengthening method.
