Abstract The objective of this study was to examine the mechanical properties of concrete produced using artificial lightweight sewage sludge aggregate (LWAC_SW) with respect to the design equations of safety code provisions. The main parameters investigated were the replacement ratio of natural sand with fine lightweight aggregates, water-to-cement ratio, and curing temperature. Test results showed that the tensile resistance capacity of LWAC_SW was commonly lower than that of concrete using artificial lightweight clay and fly ash aggregate (LWAC_CF) but higher than the predictions obtained from the design equations of KCI 2021 and fib model code 2010. From regression analysis using the current test data, empirical equations were formulated to reliably assess the compressive strength development, moduli of elasticity and rupture, and splitting tensile strengths of LWAC_SW.
