Abstract |
While precast concrete construction methods are widely utilized across various construction sites, current concrete structural standards lack an effective calculation method that optimally incorporates concrete variables for horizontal shear strength. Previous studies have presented diverse opinions regarding the utilization of shear keys. Even though there is a design formula for horizontal shear strength employing shear keys in international practices, a detailed calculation method specific to shear key characteristics is absent. Therefore, this study evaluated the horizontal shear strength and shear strength of precast concrete composite beams, focusing on the detailed features of shear keys formed at joint interfaces. Four-point loading tests were conducted on five specimens, considering variables such as clamping stress and shear key height at the interface. Analysis of experimental results revealed that shear keys had limited influence on shear strength but demonstrated variations in their contribution to horizontal shear strength depending on their height. The shear key design equation proposed in previous studies was deemed to be inappropriate, highlighting the importance of considering height in the design of composite beams using shear keys.
