Abstract |
Tempered glass, which accounts for the largest mass fraction of photovoltaic (PV) panels, has been investigated as a replacement for natural fine aggregate in concrete. However, the drying shrinkage characteristics of concrete containing tempered glass as fine aggregate and the applicability of existing prediction models have not been sufficiently investigated. In this study, the drying shrinkage of concrete using tempered glass as a fine aggregate replacement ratios of 0 to 40% was measured during 180 days at W/B 40% and 50%. The predictive performance of the KDS 14 20 01, ACI 209R-92, fib MC2010, B3, and GL 2000 models was evaluated using the root mean square error (RMSE) and mean absolute percentage error (MAPE). The test results showed that compressive strength and elastic modulus increased with increasing tempered glass replacement ratio, whereas drying shrinkage decreased and developed more slowly. These results were attributed to the lower amount of total water amount associated with the low water absorption of tempered glass and the restriction of moisture migration caused by fine glass particles. Meanwhile, the existing prediction models underestimated the reduction in drying shrinkage associated with increasing tempered glass replacement because these models do not explicitly account for aggregate absorption ratio and restraining effects as independent input parameters.
