Abstract |
This study evaluated the shear performance of masonry joints using 15 specimens tested in accordance with EN 1052-3. Five reinforcement conditions were examined: unreinforced (DU), mortar-reinforced (DR), engineered cementitious composite (ECC)-reinforced (DE), ECC with mesh (DEM), and ECC with mesh and stress-transfer devices (DEMS). Shear stress?displacement relationships were analyzed using a bilinear model with a transition point at 70% of the peak shear strength. The average peak shear strengths of DU, DR, DE, DEM, and DEMS were 0.506, 1.262, 1.054, 1.358, and 1.064 MPa, respectively. DEM exhibited the highest peak shear strength, while DE and DR showed the highest first- and second-stage stiffness, respectively. Compared with DEM, DEMS exhibited 21.6% lower peak shear strength and 67.5% lower second-stage stiffness, but the largest average displacement at peak shear strength 2.867 mm. These results indicate that reinforcement methods affect the strength, displacement, and stiffness characteristics of masonry joints.
