Abstract |
The Digital Media Street, to be constructed in the center of Digital Media City, is the world's first attempt to create an ubiquitous environment in full scale in the streets available to everyone, everyday. It will be a street to test, experience and learn about digital media contents, acting as the test bed for Korea’s Information Communication Technology (ICT). The Digital Media Street (DMS) is raising great interest as the unique plan, because it will display and set up hidden digital technologies and contents on the open street, so all the people who visit or use the DMS will be able to experience and make full use of it. The goal of this study is focused on the analysis of the possibility of deploying digital technology. The process and plan of this study are as follows: in the digital era, streets will be in need of a new function as a place of exchanging informations, meeting, and experiencing culture. And a “good street”must meet diverse user needs and convenience as well as the basic function as a space for going from one place to another. The evolution of IT and digital technology has produced a new concept of space, namely the ‘ubiquitous space’. To apply this concept to a real space, this study uses a new approach. First, the trend of digital technology was analysed, which was followed by developing a technological principle of digital city and DMS. Finally, the appropriate technologies were classified into phases and promoting sectors, and applied them to DMS Plan. By applying this study’s result to other urban design and street plans, it can provide a a model for new street plan for the future. |
