Abstract |
This study aims to obtain lessons by comparing and analyzing present status, features and programs related with urban renewal of two local cities(Jeonju city in Korea and Kanazawa city in Japan), which reveal much similarities in urban features and objectives of city policies. Based on the comparison and analysis of revitalization projects implemented by local governments, this study suggests the following revitalization strategies not only in aspects of law system and politics, but also in urban planning and renewal projects: Firstly, as supplementary measures in politics ⅰ) construction of a monitoring system and parallel promotion of a city growth management policy, ⅱ) establishment of special law and provision of budget to support urban renewal projects as a national movement, ⅲ) necessity of founding a task-force authorities responsible for whole related projects, are suggested; Secondly, as supplementary measures in urban planning and projects, ⅰ) re-formulating of a concept and function of central districts, ⅱ) development of habitation promotion projects reflecting the characteristic of the central city area, ⅲ) the strategy of activating a commercial function through reproduction of a base institution, are proposed. |
